When I retired several years ago I said I wanted to travel to the National Parks, to sit on the rim of the Grand Canyon and to watch the sunrise and the sunset. I wanted to see the color of Bryce, the mountains of the Tetons and the wildlife in Yellowstone. I also wanted to see the Everglades, the Rookery in Venice, Florida, and drive the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I was able to do that and more. In total, I have taken 15 extended trips since 2001. When my wife travels with me we stay in motels along the way, but when I travel alone I stay in my van in campgrounds in the Parks.

One result of my trips to the National Parks in the west is this presentation called "Dream It! Plan It! Do It! Photographing the National Parks." It includes a short slideshow from the "familiar tripod holes," a "how to" section about planning a photo trip of from 3 - 30 days, and a closing slideshow of my favorite National Park images, many of which are from "unfamiliar" tripod holes.

The attached PDF contains my presentation slides containing information garnered from the lesssons learned and the tools used while planning these trips. This information will be useful whether you are going to take a quick 3-4 day tour of the Great Circle or more extended trips in a van, camper or a motor home. All the PDF links are "hot" and if you click on them you will be taken to the web site shown. It's a little large - 6meg, and may take 10-15 seconds to download using broadband - so give it a chance to load. Once downloaded, you should save it to the hard drive on your computer so it will be immediately available the next time you want to reference it.

You can also download my Speakers Notes as a PDF which accompanies the slides.

Enjoy! I hope you have as many wonderful trips as I have had and that you make many beautiful images....and please feel free do drop me a note if you have questions or if I can give you some ideas.
